The Long Lake Outdoor Center was built by the Civil Conservation Corps in 1938 and hasn't changed much since then. It is considered the best remaining example of a CCC camp in Michigan, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The forest canopy is immense and the well-maintained cabins are the original structures. The lodge is stunning with its two massive stone fireplaces. The modern bathhouse is fully equipped and handicapped accessible. The lodge, certified kitchen, bathhouse and cabins are designed to handle the camps rated capacity of one hundred twenty campers. The camp is perfect for most groups, although any of the twenty cabins or the lodge can be reserved individually. Long Lake is serene and peaceful; you will rarely see a motorboat. Our dock is one of only three. The lake has a public access, and the fishing is great! If you like the excitement of a big lake, the public access to Gun Lake (2,600 acres) is just two miles away. |
All the cabins have hardwood floors, white pine tongue & groove interior walls and plaster ceilings. The windows are all screened. Some cabins have heat and electricity, and one has a fireplace. The beds are all bunks. Sleeping capacity ranges from four to twenty. |
The camp is located on over three hundred acres in the middle of the 5,200-acre Yankee Springs State Recreation Area. Yankee Springs has seven marked hiking/skiing/mountain biking trails totaling almost thirty miles. The camp includes a baseball diamond, volleyball court, horseshoe pits and a shuffleboard court. |
